In general, over a long period of time, Japan's migration policy has been quite limited. However, in recent years, this highly developed country has begun to experience a shortage of highly qualified workers due to an aging population. To strengthen its labor market, the country began to invite specialists from abroad. In particular, they introduced a visa for qualified specialists in Japan, approved the simplification of a certain number of migration procedures, and also launched a new permit - Visa Business Manager.

What is a Japanese Visa Business Manager?

The Business Manager Visa is a new work permit in Japan that allows owners, directors and managers of business companies in Japan to apply for business manager status to reside in Japan.

Also, this class of visa is suitable for entrepreneurs who want to open a business in Japan.

Once the company is registered, they can sponsor themselves as a business manager to obtain a business manager visa.

Who can apply for a Japanese Business Manager Visa

In order to obtain a Business Manager Visa, the applicant must meet a certain number of requirements. In particular, an expat needs to demonstrate his own ability to manage a business.

Expats who plan to hold management positions in an existing business

You must have at least three years of relevant business management experience, which may include years of postgraduate business management study.

Foreigners who plan to open their own company in Japan

The relocation procedure for expats who plan to start their own business is a little more complicated, in order to obtain a residence permit, the applicant must:

1. Provide a detailed business plan - a clear description and explanation of business prospects and expected profits must be provided to the Japanese immigration office in order to assess the viability of your business.

2. Have an investment reserve - in order to demonstrate the financial feasibility of your business, it is necessary to have an investment reserve in the amount of 5 million yen (US$ 34,207).

3. The company must have office space in Japan – You must provide dedicated office space for your business operations. It should be dedicated to your business with a contract specifying the use of the office, ideally on behalf of the company.

4. Company Registration – You must complete the registration of your company in Japan. This includes having the necessary business licenses and certifications depending on your industry.

5. Applicant must have sufficient salary/income to live independently in Japan.

There are several factors that are considered by the Immigration Service to approve a visa application or not, such as stability and credibility of the business, expected profit and loss balance, number of employees and types of business, etc.

To move, travel or work safely in a new country, you will need health insurance. You can apply for an extended policy on our website here.
