How to become a citizen of Indonesia

To decide to take such an important step, you should first visit this country as a tourist. So, you can live here and understand whether this country can be considered your home.

 Through the process of naturalization

 To apply for Indonesian citizenship through naturalization you need:

 - have 18 years;

 - live in the country for 5 years (without leaving), or 10 years with the opportunity to leave;

 - be healthy without any mental or physical disorders;

 - have no criminal record;

 - learn Indonesian;

 - comply with all laws and the Constitution of the country;

 - confirm your income and employment;

 - pay taxes.

If you were born in a country, you automatically obtain citizenship, even if your parents are not citizens of that country.  If your father is from Indonesia and your mother is not, you also get citizenship. Also, an orphan born in the country fits this form.

Another option is to marry or marry someone who has Indonesian citizenship. But it's not that simple. You should:

Obtain a document with permission from the embassy of your country.

• Divorce a previous marriage.

 • Visa for pensioners (KITAP). The visa is suitable for people of retirement age who have enough money for self-sufficiency.

 • Social visa.

However, there are still some rules. Your passport must be valid for at least six months in advance. At the border, you may be asked to confirm that you have the finances to live on the island.

Having done all the above, you become an applicant for citizenship. You need to pay about $ 500 to complete the paperwork. Waiting for documents can take a long time. During this time, you should read all the rules of living on the island. Your application can be considered for up to 1 year.
