Great Britain has been actively dealing with the issue of excessive migration in recent years. After the last election, the new British government led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer talked about changes to the visa policy that could limit the hiring of foreign specialists in the IT, telecommunications and engineering industries. Given that this is one of the key sectors in which expats work, the new law could significantly affect foreigners.

Our new material is about the predicted changes.

The UK government has recently suspended the wage increase requirement for family reunification visas. More details in this article.

How does the UK government plan to change visa rules for IT workers?

The United Kingdom authorities are discussing changes to visa policy that would help reduce dependence on foreign workers. The proposed innovations include:

- Raising the minimum income threshold: This will require applicants to demonstrate a higher level of income to be eligible for a work visa.

- Restrictions on the number of expat jobs in certain regions: the government may introduce stricter visa requirements for certain regions of the UK to address local skills shortages.

How soon do they plan to approve changes to the migration policy for IT specialists?

The country's leadership has now sent a request to the Migration Advisory Committee (AMI) to check the country's dependence on international workers in the IT, telecommunications and engineering sectors.

Also, the Secretary of the Interior of Great Britain, Yvette Cooper, instructed the IAS to investigate the reasons for the lack of labor in these sectors of the British economy and to assess how the sectors will react to certain restrictions on hiring foreign workers. The committee will examine possible changes in immigration policy that could encourage the employment of a local workforce, noting that the current system may not serve the national interest.

The results of the Migration Advisory Committee are expected to be ready in 9 months.

Therefore, highly qualified specialists who plan to work in Great Britain in the future should take into account possible changes and, if necessary, speed up the procedure of their relocation, while the conditions for obtaining a visa remain more loyal for foreign IT specialists.
