Air travel has long been an integral part of our lives, providing fast and relatively convenient travel between cities and countries. Although many of us are well aware of the general rules of behavior on board, not everyone always follows them. This can negatively affect the quality of travel for all passengers.

Flying can be quite stressful, especially for passengers with aerophobia. To avoid unpleasant situations and ensure a comfortable flight, it is important to know what to avoid while on the plane. Visit World has prepared a list of 10 things you shouldn't do during a flight to make your trip more enjoyable for yourself and others.

In the previous article, we talked about the rules for transporting medicines in hand luggage on an airplane.

1. Do not make jokes about terrorism

Everyone knows that jokes about bombs or airplane hijackings are inappropriate, but sometimes some people can't help but make them. It's worth remembering that terrorism is a serious threat that causes real fear among passengers, especially airline employees.

No wonder airports everywhere have signs prohibiting such jokes at security checkpoints. An airplane is also not the place for such jokes. The consequences of an unsuccessful attempt to make someone laugh can be very serious because people can misunderstand your words. It's important to remember that such jokes can cause unnecessary stress to your fellow travelers, and this is a good reason to think twice before you speak. In any case, it is better to avoid jokes about bombs or airplane hijackings.

2. Don't go barefoot

Walking barefoot on an airplane is strongly discouraged. Firstly, it is a matter of respect for other passengers, as your bare feet can violate their personal space, which is already small in the cabin. Secondly, it is important for your health.

Airplanes are not disinfected after every flight, but carry thousands of passengers from all over the world every day, along with their germs. Walking barefoot, you risk picking up other people's bacteria or spreading your own. If you care about your health, you should also refrain from using shared headphones, or drinking coffee or tea, as the water in the airplane tanks is not always properly treated. Avoiding unnecessary contact with surfaces and objects on board will also reduce your chances of picking up unwanted germs. Remember that preventing infections is always the right decision, especially in cramped conditions.

3. Do not abuse alcoholic beverages

When it comes to alcohol on board, it's important to remember that excessive drinking during a flight is not a good idea. In addition to the risk of health complications due to flight-related stress, you may also find yourself in an unpleasant situation that ends up with you being kicked off the plane due to unacceptable behavior.

This will not only ruin your plans but also create discomfort for other passengers. No one wants to become a tabloid hero because of a drunken brawl. Remember that the ability to control yourself on board is important for maintaining a pleasant atmosphere during the flight.

4. Do not make noise

Keeping calm during the flight is key to a comfortable stay for all passengers. This rule applies not only to air travel, but also to any public transportation, although it becomes especially important on board an airplane. On an airplane, you can't just get off at a bus stop like you can on a bus, so your behavior has a significant impact on others. It is worth remembering that your fellow passengers do not have the opportunity to leave the plane, so their comfort depends on your behavior.

Particular attention should be paid to keeping children calm during the flight. What may seem like fun to you may not necessarily be fun to other passengers, especially those who are trying to relax. Teach your children the rules of behavior on the plane in advance to avoid unnecessary trouble and create a pleasant atmosphere for everyone. Your responsible attitude will not go unnoticed, and other passengers will be grateful to you.

5. Do not use the phone and do not smoke

It's a time-honored tip: it's best not to use your phone on an airplane. Although modern avionics are protected from interference, pilots and authorities want to make sure that you are safe. It is especially important to follow this rule during takeoff and landing when the aircraft is most vulnerable. In addition, during turbulence, cell phones and laptops can become dangerous objects that can injure other passengers.

Another thing that is unacceptable on an airplane is smoking. Fire and smoke are the most dangerous phenomena in a sealed cabin flying at high altitudes. You can be fined up to $5,000 for smoking on an airplane. In addition, you should remember that the smell of cigarette smoke is unpleasant for many passengers, and you should respect their comfort.

Planning a trip or move abroad? An important part of a successful trip is an insurance policy, as it guarantees high-quality medical care anywhere in the world and can protect you from unnecessary expenses while travelling.  You can buy insurance from trusted agents on the Visit World portal.

6. Do not wear contact lenses

To make your flight as comfortable as possible, you should pay attention to the conditions in the cabin. Dry air can cause your eyes to dry out faster than on the ground. This can cause discomfort when wearing contact lenses. Therefore, for long flights, it is better to choose glasses - they will provide you with comfort and help you avoid unpleasant sensations during the trip.

7. Do not lean back recklessly

It is important to show respect for other passengers during the flight, especially when it comes to limited personal space. Unless you are flying in first class, there is already a limited amount of space around you, so you should avoid reclining your seat too far. This can significantly reduce the comfort of other passengers, especially during meals, when careless movement can lead to spilled drinks or falling food.

Always look behind you before reclining the seat back. A slight recline is acceptable, but you should only recline the seat completely during long flights when most passengers are sleeping. In any case, it is better to ask in advance if it will be inconvenient for the person behind you. This is a simple show of respect that will ensure the comfort of everyone on board.

8. Better sleep after the flight

Falling asleep during takeoff and landing is not recommended, as these are the moments when rapid changes in air pressure occur. This can lead to ear congestion, as the air in the ear canals does not have time to adapt. To reduce the discomfort, you can try yawning or swallowing, which will help equalize the pressure. If you fall asleep, the stuffy ears can bother you longer and in some cases even cause dizziness or bleeding.

9. Don't neglect water

On board an airplane, the air is extremely dry, which can cause rapid dehydration. Therefore, before the flight, it is advisable to buy a bottle of water in Duty-Free, especially if you are going to have a long flight. This will help maintain proper hydration levels. However, it is better to avoid carbonated drinks, as they can cause excessive gas, which will be unpleasant for both you and your fellow passengers. Choose plain water to keep yourself comfortable and ensure a pleasant flight for everyone around you.

10. Do not open your seat belt unnecessarily

After takeoff, if you don't plan to go to the restroom or move around the cabin right away, it's best to leave your seat belt fastened. You never know when the airplane might hit a turbulence zone or make a sharp maneuver. For your own safety, you should keep your seat belt fastened to avoid possible injuries. You should also avoid touching the belt excessively, as bacteria can accumulate on it.
